This wonderful grassroots competition will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2022, and for the majority of those years it has engaged a headline sponsor.
The draw has just been made for the National Village Cup. It took place in the famous committee room at Lord’s, where the final will once again take place in September.
Former England seam bowler and now Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser was on hand to host the draw which involved more than 300 clubs from the length and breadth of the country.
This Summer’s Village Cup will run alongside both the World Cup and the Ashes and while Pakistan’s World Cup fixture versus India at Old Trafford in June will undoubtedly be front-page news there are local rivalries and mouth-watering ties in abundance in the ‘village’.
These include reigning champions Folkton & Flixton from North Yorkshire taking on neighbouring Heslerton CC and hotly-tipped Worlington CC from Suffolk facing Matching Green. The full draw can be seen here.
The NVC is looking for a headline sponsor
This wonderful grassroots competition is approaching its 50th anniversary, and for the majority of those years has engaged a headline sponsor. Haig Whisky championed the competition for many years in the 1970s, and in recent times sponsors have included Alliance & Leicester, Yorkshire Tea and Davidstow.
