West Indies bowler Hayden Walsh Jr has tested positive for COVID-19, ruling him out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

The 28-year old tested negative upon arrival in Dhaka on January 10 but returned two positive tests on Wednesday (January 13) and Thursday (January 14). He is now self-isolating until he gets two negative results.

According to a statement from Cricket West Indies, Walsh had no contact with other squad members and the series is scheduled to continue as planned.

“The West Indies touring squad has been in individual isolation since arriving in Bangladesh and so there has been no contact between squad members since arrival,” the comment read.

“In accordance with the established medical protocols, Walsh remained isolated from the West Indies squad and is now under the care and supervision of the Team Physician, Dr Praimanand Singh.

“Walsh will remain in isolation until he returns two negative PCR test results and therefore is unavailable to play in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

“All other members of the West Indies touring squad returned second negative COVID-19 tests, after undergoing four tests within the last 11 days.”

Losing Walsh, the squad’s senior spinner, is a huge blow for West Indies who are already missing a dozen established internationals, including Jason Holder, Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard, from their touring squad.

West Indies are in Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series and two Test matches, with the first ODI scheduled for Dhaka on January 20.
