The sanction was India’s second in the five-match series, while England were found guilty of the same offence in the fourth T20I
India’s players have been fined 40 per cent of their match fees for a slow over-rate in the fifth T20I against England in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Virat Kohli’s side were two overs short of their target, even after time allowances were taken into consideration.
Members of the fielding team are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over that they fail to bowl within their allotted time.
Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence – levelled by umpires Anil Chaudhary and Nitin Menon – and accepted the resulting fine, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
The sanction, handed down by match referee Javagal Srinath, was India’s second in the five-match series, while England were found guilty of the same offence in the fourth T20I.
Sri Lanka were also fined last Sunday after coming up two overs short in their third ODI against West Indies, meaning that four teams have committed over-rate offences in the last week.
