Virat Kohli’s side defeated England by seven wickets on Sunday to level the five-match series but will lose 20 per cent of their match fee after falling one over short of the target
India’s players have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during their T20I victory against England in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Virat Kohli’s side bounced back from a heavy defeat in the first T20I to level the series with a seven-wicket win on Sunday.
However, India were judged to be one over short of the target (after time allowances), leading Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees to impose a sanction.
In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Kohli, captaining India, pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the fine, meaning no formal hearing was necessary.
On-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan, and third umpire Virender Sharma leveled the charge.
India and England are scheduled to contest the third T20I on Tuesday, March 16 in Ahmedabad.
