Toyota Club Hero nominees:
Lisa Dwerryhouse – Ammanford CC
Lisa's quiet determination and passion for the game has seen the development of a thriving women’s and girls’ section at the club and via a number of innovative ideas has made sure that cricket is accessible for all in a community with high levels of deprivation.
She founded the women’s team in August 2023 with eight players but now sees more than 25 training and playing regularly, and also serves as coach, umpire and scorer for the girls’ U12 team.
Funds raised from her annual quiz night ensure that the women do not have to contribute to the costs of winter training or entering the indoor league. No training or match fees are levied as a result of fund raising efforts.
Lisa has developed a scheme with a local bat supplier whereby donated bats are repaired and refurbished before being distributed to junior players.
All of the above is delivered with good humour and a steely determination to provide access to all to the sport she loves.
Steve Barrett – Liphook & Ripsley CC
Steve has been the heartbeat of the club for decades — first as a junior, then as a key player, captain, and now as a transformational leader in his role as chairman.
Since taking on the role over the off-season, Steve has been nothing short of outstanding – revitalising the youth setup, expanding the social fixture calendar, securing critical funding for ground repairs, volunteering in so many ways and strengthening community ties.
He is a leader, volunteer, teammate, and friend whose contribution to the cricket club has been pivotal. He doesn’t do it for recognition. He does it because he cares.
John Hawkins – Wolvey CC
John is 70 and has been at the heart of our club for over 40 years. He’s the one who looks after the ground and pavilion, often completely on his own, and puts in hundreds of hours each season to keep everything in top condition. Thanks to John, our teams play on one of the best surfaces in Warwickshire. Rain or shine, he’s out there mowing, rolling and repairing to make sure the pitch is always ready.
Even with personal medical challenges, John always puts the club first. The ground is his pride and joy, and his hard work keeps the club going both on and off the field.
John also runs the bar at the pavilion and acts as our bar treasurer. He makes sure it's a welcoming place for everyone who visits, from players and families to opposition teams and spectators.
Mohamed Ismail – Ipswich & Colchester CC
The club he founded in 2020 has quickly become one of the region’s most impactful grassroots cricket organisations. It now has over 200 members, five teams, and has won Two Counties Sunday League titles in 2021 and 2024.
Under his leadership, IPSCOL earned ECB Clubmark accreditation (2023–2026)—a mark of excellence in club management, welfare, and community engagement.
He has launched year-round junior programmes, brought in professionals from IT and healthcare, partnered with the University of Essex, helped revive village cricket, promoted LMS franchise leagues, and organised community cricket carnivals across Essex and Suffolk.
He has also taken on a governance role as the Essex Representative on the Two Counties League Committee, contributing to the strategic development of cricket across the wider region.
Colin Wilks – Stockport CC
Colin has committed over 52 years to Stockport CC. Having played and coached our local team. He has been all things to the club. In previous times taken on debt to keep the club going.
He has been chairman and all round SCC go to guy. In the time I have been at the club for the last 10 years he is our groundsman. Ensuring everything is match ready and keeping the club and pitch in top condition. He cares and gives so much to the club. Without him we would be lost! He has not been in the best of health this year, but still he in down every day, preparing the pitches
Kieran Connell – Titchborne Park CC
Since he began volunteering three years ago, aged just 18, Kieran has servied as social media officer, indoor captain, midweek captain, Allstars activator, Colts head coach and 1st team vice captain.
Many of these roles Kieran has had to juggle which at such a young age is impressive. One thing I have learnt is organising volunteers is a hard gig and without capable individuals like Kieran around - we would really struggle.
