Essex pin down Daniel Sams for T20 Blast return

Australian allrounder Sams will return to Chelmsford for the whole of this year's competition, having made a considerable competition to the Eagles' campaign in 2022

Essex head coach Anthony McGrath has called Daniel Sams "one of the most consistent players in T20 cricket around the world" after signing the Australian for the 2023 T20 Blast.

Australian allrounder Sams will return to Chelmsford for the whole of this year's competition, having made a considerable competition to the Eagles' campaign in 2022.

Sams took 14 wickets and scored 165 runs during his time at the County Ground last term, and McGrath is hopeful he can have even more input this time around.

We’re really pleased to have Daniel re-sign for the Club ahead of the upcoming Vitality Blast. He played a big part in our campaign last time out both on and off the pitch and we’re excited to welcome him back.

"He has been one of the most consistent players in T20 cricket around the world over the last few years with bat and ball, so we're thrilled to see him return," McGrath said.

Sams, who has spent the English winter playing for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash, will head to Essex after a season with Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club last year and I can’t wait to get back over there and play in front of the passionate Chelmsford crowd once again," he said.

"The support we received last year was unbelievable and I strongly believe we have a strong squad this season that has a great chance of winning more silverware."
