Fixture: Hampshire v Surrey
Venue: Ageas Bowl, Southampton
Dates: Sunday, July 4, 2021 - Wednesday, July 7, 2021
Start time: 11am
What's the lowdown?
Perhaps the most important game of the round, with the loser surely out of contention for a spot in the top group. When they met at the Kia Oval earlier this year, Hashim Amla and Ollie Pope made hay in a brutal victory for Surrey.
Just seven points separate the two counties, both of whom sit behind Somerset and Gloucestershire, who currently hold the prized berths at the top of the pool. Leicestershire are only a further eight points behind Surrey in fifth place and will be watching with an eye on proceedings.
Who's in form?
Surrey had Kemar Roach to thank for 22 wickets in five games earlier this season, and can now call upon Kyle Jamieson as his replacement. The New Zealand giant has turned out in the T20 Blast already, but the player of the match in the World Test Championship final will be quite a proposition in the County Championship, especially back at the Ageas Bowl, the scene of his match-winning display against India.
With the bat, Amla is the tenth-highest run-scorer in the country, with 215 of his runs coming in one innings against this week's opponent.
For Hampshire, Ian Holland has been a revelation at the top of the innings; the allrounder has accrued 520 runs at 43.33. With the ball, Kyle Abbott has done much of the damage, claiming 35 wickets so far this summer, while Brad Wheal has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign.

It is hard to look past the Jamieson effect for Surrey in this one. The world has seen his talents as a red-ball bowler over the last 12 months, so much will depend on how Hampshire fare against his threat.
