The Pakistan captain took an Imad Wasim drive to his right elbow and despite trying to carry on has been forced off the field
Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has been forced to retire hurt after being struck on the elbow in his side's match against Bangladesh.
The 32-year-old tried to move out of the way of a full-blooded drive from teammate Imad Wasim while at the non-striker's end, but in doing so moved his right arm closer into his body and saw the ball smash into his elbow.
Sarfraz was immediately grimacing in pain and the Pakistan physiotherapist was on the field soon after to treat the captain for the incident which occurred in the 45th over of the innings bowled by Mohammad Saifuddin.
After a long delay he tried to continue and initially looked to have shrugged off the problem, but before the start of the 46th over, he decided that the pain was too much and decided to retire hurt after scoring two runs.
Wahab Riaz was the player to replace the Pakistan skipper out in the middle with the score 267 for five, but he did return to the field for the final ball of the innings to hit a single as Pakistan finished on 315 for nine, and was consequently fit to keep wicket at Headingley.
Pakistan's match against Bangladesh is their final game of the World Cup as they would at best finish behind New Zealand on net run rate after failing to bowl Bangladesh out for seven runs or fewer.
