What is the CPL?

The Caribbean Premier League is an annual T20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean. It was created in 2013.

Where is the 2020 Caribbean Premier League taking place?

Due to Covid-19, the CPL will be played enitrely on Trinidad and Tobago at two grounds: Brian Lara Cricket Academy and Queen’s Park Oval.

When will the CPL 2020 take place?

Tuesday, August 18 until Thursday, September 10.

Which teams take part in the CPL 2020?

There are six teams in total: Trinbago Knight Riders, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Tridents, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Lucia Zouks

What is the format of the CPL?

The CPL is divided into a group stage and a knockout stage. In the group stage, the teams each play 10 matches overall, three of which are at home in a typical season.

The knockout stage includes two semi-finals and a final to determine the winner of the tournament.

Will fans be allowed into the grounds?

No, the tournament will take place behind closed doors.

Who is favourite to win the CPL 2020?

Barbados Tridents won in 2019 and are a good option to pick to win the 2020 trophy. 

Trinbago Knight Riders have perhaps the strongest squad in the tournament, while Guyana Amazon Warriors won 11 games in a row last year before slipping up in the final.

Why is the competition called the Hero CPL?

It is currently sponsored by Hero MotoCorp and consequently its official title is the Hero CPL.

Is there a limit on overseas players?

There can be as many as six international ‘franchise players’ per squad. Each team will contract 15 players in total. At least six players must be local to the franchise country and four must be under the age of 23.

How much do players get paid?

As of 2015, the CPL’s salary cap is $1,000,000. For the 2020 season, the top-tier players are being asked to accept a 30 per cent salary cut as a result of Covid-19. Those within the $20,000 bracket will take a reduced 10 per cent salary cut, while those within the $15,000 bracket will not have to take any cut.
