Scorecard | Talking Points

INDIA

Rohit Sharma (140): Powerful, rhythmic, in control. Pakistan had no answer for Sharma, though they did themselves no favours by pursuing a peculiar length to a man who is said to sleep on the backfoot. 9.5

KL Rahul (57): Graceful at the top of the order, the perfect foil for Sharma. Then went and spoiled it all by doing something stupid like dinking a catch up to short cover. 7

Virat Kohli (77): The captain appeared in cruise control at the crease. Rarely rushed, never panicky, absolutely on top. Weirdly walked off when UltraEdge showed no spike. 7.5

Vijay Shankar (15* & 2-22): A wicket with his first World Cup delivery and filled in ably when Kumar went down injured. 7.5

Kedar Jadhav (9*): A bit-part role for the allrounder. 5

NOW READ: Rohit's hundred was a love letter to India's fans

MS Dhoni (1): Couldn’t contribute late runs with the bat. Typically tidy behind the stumps. 5

Hardik Pandya (26 & 2-44): Lusty blows after being elevated up the order. Pace and bounce with the ball, and claimed two wickets in two balls. 7

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0-8): Looked threatening with every delivery he bowled in his 2.4 overs before walking off with a tight hamstring. 6.5

Kuldeep Yadav (2-32): Bowled with guile and creativity, and provided the turning point in the Pakistan innings by bowling Babar when the second-wicket partnership threatened to run India close. 8

Yuzvendra Chahal (0-53): Found himself being picked off a lot more often than Kuldeep. 5

Jasprit Bumrah (0-52): A rare low-key afternoon for India's premier white-ball seamer. 5

Rohit Sharma hit a majestic hundred

PAKISTAN

Fakhar Zaman (62): Played himself into a position whereby he was his side's last hope of victory and then slopped up a catch on the sweep. Continues to promise so much and not quite deliver. 7

Imam-ul-Haq (7): Could not give Pakistan either a shot in the arm at the top of the order or the anchor innings he has played so well in the past. Pinned lbw first ball by India’s fifth change. 3

Babar Azam (48): Another stylish knock only brought to an end by a ripper from Kuldeep Yadav, which he would have done well to keep out blocking with a wardrobe. 7

Mohammad Hafeez (9 & 0-11): A cheap and soft dismissal, flicking a catch into the legside. One over with the ball. 3.5

Shoaib Malik (5 & 0-11): Knocked over for his second duck in three innings this World Cup. Only thrown the ball for a single over. 3

Sarfraz Ahmed (12): Perhaps got a tricky call wrong at the toss. A sluggish innings with the bat. 4

Imad Wasim (46* & 0-49): Controlled and disciplined, kept the scoring rate to a manageable level from his end, without looking particularly likely to break a partnership. Excellent with the bat in a totally forlorn cause. 7.5

Shadab Khan (20* & 0-61): A box of allsorts. The occasional one turned and caused problems, but there were just as many full-bungers, wide-uns and half-volleys which allowed India to score freely. 5

Hassan Ali (1-84): A difficult World Cup continues. Got the full Kohli-Sharma treatment, and was generally erratic, bowling way too short to Sharma in particular. 3

Wahab Riaz (1-71): The most expensive he has been at this World Cup. Occasionally troubled India - one sharp lifter surprised Kohli - but not at the levels he has been hitting since his recall. 4

Mohammad Amir (3-47): Routinely beat the bat throughout his various spells, tying the Indian batsmen down and doing the bulk of Pakistan’s heavy-lifting. He has been excellent at this World Cup, the same cannot be said for some of his fellow bowlers. 8.5
