The former England allrounder, who served as a consultant with the men's team during the summer and will work with the Lions this winter, replaces James Foster after his contract was not renewed
Andrew Flintoff has been handed his first head coach position with Northern Superchargers men for the next season of The Hundred.
He succeeds James Foster, after his departure from the role last week after two seasons leading the Headingley-based side, who have failed to progress beyond the group stage in three attempts.
The 45-year-old Flintoff served as a consultant with England men during the New Zealand and Ireland one-day internationals during the summer.
He will act as a mentor with the Lions during their winter training camp in the United Arab Emirates.
England men's managing director Rob Key played a major role in luring Flintoff back to the sport in the wake of him suffering a number of serious injuries in a car accident while filming for Top Gear last December.

He impressed while working with the England Under-19 squad in August, contacting performance director Mo Bobat with player recommendations, leading to him being enlisted for the upcoming UAE trip.
One of English cricket's best-loved figures, the former allrounder played 79 Tests, 141 one-day internationals and seven T20Is before his final professional match in 2015.
A wide-ranging media career has been the priority since calling time on his playing days, which included the documentary series Field of Dreams, during which Flintoff attempted to engage youngsters in Preston in cricket. But he has always harboured lofty coaching ambitions.
"My time with the England men's team has been a reminder of just how special cricket is to me, and I'm relishing the opportunity to be back amongst it, helping to guide the Superchargers team to success on the field while making memories off it and helping to take cricket to more people," said the ex-Lancashire man.
"The Superchargers have a great fan base who I cannot wait to meet and bring along with us this season. I'm looking forward to making Headingley my new home."
