Fixture: Gloucestershire v Kent Spitfires

Venue: County Ground, Bristol

Date: Tuesday, June 22, 2021

Start time: 6.30pm

What’s the lowdown?

High-flying Kent Spitfires visit a Gloucestershire side desperate to just to get on the pitch after back-to-back washouts.

Gloucestershire are fourth in the South Group but missed their chance to close the gap on the leading clubs when games against Hampshire Hawks and Essex Eagles were lost to rain on Friday and Sunday.

Kent, on the other hand, have avoided weather problems and in quite spectacular fashion. They have 10 points from their six matches, with five wins and just one loss - that came at Somerset - and they come into this one off the back of posting their record Blast score (236 for 3) against Essex on Sunday.

Who’s in form?

Dan Worrall was economic in his first appearances of the campaign, against Middlesex on Thursday. The Australian's four overs went at just 6.75 each. Josh Shaw is the leading wicket-taker for Gloucestershire in the Blast this year, with seven wickets at 14.57, and an economy rate of 7.84.

With the bat, Gloucestershire have had a remarkbly consistent season so far. Their returns in their matches have been 179 for 6, 177 for 7, 178 for 8, and 157 for 5 (in 18 overs). Only one man has a half-century to his name - Ian Cockbain. Glenn Phillips, the overseas player from New Zealand, has 131 runs at a strike rate of 154.11.

Kent have three batsmen in the top 20 runscorers in this year's Blast - Jack Leaning, Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jordan Cox. Bell-Drummond, leading the side in the absence of Sam Billings, smashed 88 from 44 balls against Essex.

With the ball, Matt Milnes has 10 wickets for the tournament while Joe Denly's legspin has been going at just 5.58 runs per over - from a healthy 12 overs bowled so far in the competition.

What’s the team news?
