Gloucestershire and Australia quick Andrew Tye praised fellow bowler Ryan Higgins matchwinning ability after their nine-run DLS victory over Surrey.

The 32-year-old fast bowler believes the two overs from his 24-year-old teammate at the Pavilion End when Surrey required another 52 runs from 4.1 overs for victory was key.

Tye, who finished with figures of 0-34 from his three overs, stated that Higgins' brilliance allowed him to vary his bowling.

"Ryan Higgins won us that match with the two overs that he bowled from this end and it gave me the freedom to try something out when they needed 16 to win.

"It is always handy having 25 runs in the bank for the final over rather than 10.

Ryan Higgins' two-over spell was the difference according to Andrew Tye

"We batted well, it was a tough wicket and a tough scoring ground because it is so big, and the breeze played a massive part tonight.

"We thought 160 was just above par, but the fact that we came out the way we did and got rid of Finchy (Aaron Finch) the way we did was massive because he has been their in-form batsman.

"We just kept plugging away and knowing that any run we could save was going to be vital when they were chasing 52 off 4.1.

"But ultimately, I would just applaud Higgo, the way he bowled from one end was unbelievable."

Despite maintaining that their score of 165 was above par, Tye believes his side were unlucky not to post a bigger total and assert further pressure on the hosts.

"It was a bit frustrating [that we didn't score 170 or 180] but I guess that was the nature of the wicket.

"They played well to get those runs and played the conditions really well and we just tried to get as many as we could.

"We were a bit unlucky at times but that is the way it is. We spoke about it pretty early that 150 was probably going to be a good score here, so to get 160 was good, and then to start the way that we did with the ball was unbelievable."
