Indian Premier League 2021: Full squads
Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed Sherfane Rutherford as Jonny Bairstow’s replacement for the second half of the Indian Premier League.
Bairstow withdrew from the tournament on September 11 in order to prioritise his upcoming England commitments. He was one of three English players to pull out of the IPL on Saturday, along with Chris Woakes (Delhi Capitals) and Dawid Malan (Punjab Kings).
23-year-old batter Rutherford previously represented Delhi Capitals in the 2019 IPL, scoring 73 runs in seven appearances at a strike rate of 135.18.
The West Indian, who has been capped six times at international level, has scored 1,102 runs in 69 career T20 appearances to date, including five half-centuries, and has a strike rate of 138.26.
He is currently representing St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.
The IPL, which was suspended on May 4 due to rising Covid-19 cases in both the bio-secure bubble and India, will resume on September 19 in the UAE.
Sunrisers Hyderabad sit bottom of the table, with just one win from their opening seven matches.
