Indian Premier League 2021: Full squads
Punjab Kings have signed South Africa international Aiden Markram for the remainder of the 2021 Indian Premier League season.
The 26-year-old batsman replaces England international Dawid Malan, who withdrew from the tournament on September 11 in order to prioritise his upcoming England commitments.
Malan is one of three English players to withdraw in the past 24 hours, alongside Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow and Delhi Capitals allrounder Chris Woakes.
Markram is yet to feature in the IPL but has made 13 T20I appearances for South Africa since making his debut in 2019, scoring 405 runs at a strike rate of 150. In total, he made 57 career T20 appearances and scored 1,403 runs, including 12 half-centuries.
The IPL, which was suspended on May 4 due to rising Covid-19 cases in both the tournament’s bio-secure bubble and India, will resume on September 19 in the UAE.
Punjab Kings are currently sixth in the table, winning three and losing five of their first eight matches.
