Roope was one of the more elegant batsmen I've seen play for Surrey - his straight drive was a thing of beauty. And I'd say he was more than a "fine" slip fielder, he was quite sensational and as good as the legendary Phil Sharpe in my opinion. But yes, in tests a bit like Mark Ramprakash, never really fulfilled his potential sadly.

Glen Chapple 985 first class wickets at 26 along with almost 9000 runs at 24, including a century from 27 balls. Add to that 388 white ball wickets including the memorable demolition of Essex at Lords in 96 of 6 for 18.
