Nottinghamshire have confirmed England's Stuart Broad has extended his contract by another two years until the end of 2021.

The 33-year-old joined the Trent Bridge club in 2008 from Leicestershire and has since taken 166 wickets across all formats.

Despite playing a starring role for his country during the Ashes last summer, Broad still managed to play seven County Championship matches in 2019, taking 17 wickets.

But with West Indies and Pakistan scheduled to tour England in 2020 another busy international red-ball summer awaits.

"Every time I step out at Trent Bridge, it feels just as special as the first time I walked onto the turf at three or four years old," said Broad, who is England's second all-time wicket-taker with 485 scalps.

"I love Nottingham being my home, I love playing for the club, and I certainly can’t envisage myself playing for any other county."

If made available, Broad - who was awarded a testimonial year in 2019 - will be key to Notts' hopes of bouncing back from last season's relegation from Division One.

Though England were unable to reclaim the Ashes from Australia, 2019 saw Broad re-emerge as the team's premier seamer with 49 wickets at 25.11 across the calendar year.

Notts head coach Peter Moores added: "Whether it’s by example with the way he prepares for games and goes about his cricket, or with words of advice for his fellow players, Stuart is a brilliant leader for us.

"His record for Notts when he’s with us is outstanding and – knowing Stuart – he’ll be as motivated as anyone for us to bounce back from last season by playing successful four-day cricket for the next couple of years."
