A second Indian cricketer has died while playing the sport in a matter of days.
Anishek Sharma, 21, passed away on Tuesday after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest on the field during a practice session with his club Paikpara in Kolkata.
He was taken to the nearby RG Kar Medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.
The young allrounder was preparing for a game against Milan Samiti in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) First Division.
CAB president Sourav Ganguly said in a statement on the organisation's Facebook page: "Heart felt condolences to the family of Aniket Sharma. May his soul rest in peace."
Joint Secretary Avishek Dalmiya said: "The news of young Aniket Sharma is shocking to all of us. Deeply saddened by the news. We have postponed their team’s match tomorrow as all his team mates are in a state of shock. Sincere prayers for his soul and condolences to his family."
On Sunday, the former Ranji Trophy batsman Rajesh Ghodge died after collapsing while batting for his club Margao in Goa.
