Where is the match being played?

Every game in the 2021 Caribbean Premier League is being held at Warner Park on St Kitts, in an effort to minimise the Covid-19 risk to the tournament.

Who’s got the form?

Both teams enter their semi-final with identical records in the group stage: six wins, four losses and 12 points apiece. Only run rate could separate them, with the Amazon Warriors pipping the Patriots to second place.

Guyana have been by far the stronger side of late, though, having won four of their last six games, including their last three on the bounce.

The Patriots have won just twice in the same period, their form drifting away after starting the competition so strongly and establishing themselves as the team to beat early doors.

Who to watch?

Guyana aren’t short of quality. T20 legend Imran Tahir - 12th on the T20 Player Index - comes into the semi-final on the back of a quite remarkable 2 for 0 from two overs against Jamaica Tallawahs, while in 24-year-old Odean Smith the Amazon Warriors possess an allrounder of serious potential.

But it’s leading wicket-taker Romario Shepherd who really catches the eye. He’s grabbed 18 scalps in the competition so far at an average of just 12.44, and an economy rate of 7.46. And that’s not even taking his explosive batting into account, having blitzed 72 off just 31 balls in the Amazon Warriors’ last match against the Tallawahs.

The Patriots’ star man is, of course, Evin Lewis. After blasting a 51-ball century against the Trinbago Knight Riders, his confidence will be sky high.

Rightly so, too: only Roston Chase has scored more in the CPL this year, but Lewis has scored his 343 runs at a considerably higher tempo than the Kings allrounder, striking at 158.8. And nobody has come close to hitting as many sixes as Lewis’ 30: the next best effort is Guyana’s Nicholas Pooran, some eight behind with 22.
