Australia’s training session at The Oval was temporarily curtailed on Saturday morning after a local net bowler was hit in the head by a ball struck by David Warner.

The Australian squad and the remaining practice bowlers stopped training as the bowler, named as Jaykishan Plaha, was treated for 12 minutes by medical staff.

After being assessed, the bowler was carried off, while the Australian team – shaken by the scare – headed back into the nets.

Warner, however, waited for an extra few minutes before returning.

According to Australian cricket journalist Sam Landsberger, who was present at the scene, the ICC confirmed that Plaha was taken to hospital for a precautionary check, but was both conscious and smiling when he left. His father is expected to meet him there.

Surrey, whose home The Oval is, arrange the bowlers for these sessisons, though they are not Surrey staff.

Australia, who have won both of their first two games of the tournament, take on India on Sunday.
