Craig Wright has been withdrawn from the Scotland party travelling to the T20 World Cup.

The Cricketer understands that Wright, the former Scotland allrounder who is now an assistant coach and selector of the side, will miss the trip for "personal reasons".

The decision was made just hours before the tour party flew out for the tournament.

Wright was due to be part of head coach Shane Burger's backroom team in Australia. Their campaign begins against West Indies on October 17 in Hobart.

Returning to the role in January 2021, he has previously served as interim head coach, most recently during the Cricket World Cup League 2 series against Papua New Guinea and Oman in Dubai earlier in the year when Burger was unavailable.

He was a key figure in the squad selection process for the World Cup as one of only three individuals (Burger and batting consultant Steven Gilmour were the others) with voting rights.

Predominantly a right-arm medium-pacer, Wright played 20 one-day internationals and three T20Is for Scotland, taking 33 wickets. He served as captain of the 50-over side between 2006 and 2009 when he retired to focus on his coaching career.
