The half century was de Villiers’ second of the campaign, having already struck an unbeaten 76 against Kolkata Knight Riders
Virat Kohli praised AB de Villiers’ enduring class after the South African batsman’s match-winning contribution in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s one-run victory over Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.
From 60 for 3 in the ninth over, de Villiers dragged Kohli’s men to 171 for 5, making 75 off just 42 balls that set up a thrilling chase led by Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer.
The half century was de Villiers’ second of the campaign, having already struck an unbeaten 76 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
And Kohli, speaking after clinching two more valuable points that keep RCB at the top of the league table, could not help but laud the evergreen South African, who had not played elite-level cricket since last year’s Indian Premier League.
“AB doesn’t like me saying this, but he hasn't played competitive cricket for five months, but if you look at him bat it doesn't feel like he doesn't play international cricket anymore,” he said.
“Hats off to him, keeps doing it again and again for us. Such an asset for us. I'll say this again, he hasn’t played for five months, just watch that innings.”
