The Mumbai Indians batsman developed the stroke during his formative years growing up in Mumbai - and unleashed it again on one of the biggest stages of all
Suryakumar Yadav produced one of the stand-out moments of the Indian Premier League so far when he launched Pat Cummins out of the ground during the win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
The 30-year-old performed a remarkable helicopter shot to bring up his half-century - a key knock as reigning champions Mumbai Indians claimed a 10-run win in Chennai.
It is the latest in a catalogue of outstanding moments in Suryakumar's career, which includes hitting his first ball in international cricket against England in March for six.
Speaking to teammate Trent Boult about the shot which secured his 21st T20 fifty, he said: "During my younger days, I used to play a lot of rubber-ball cricket on cemented track and on one side, boundary used to be about 90-95 meters so think that shot has come from there.
"I’m really enjoying the way I’m going right now and hopefully, continue the same for the team.
Suryakumar has been among the most consistent IPL batsman in recent years, having scored 1,416 runs across the last three editions of the tournament.
"I try to keep things really simple," he added on how he builds an innings. "I don't try to complicate, I know what I have been doing over the last two-year years in that position.
"I just go out there and express myself. Hopefully, I keep going the same thing over and over again."
