Shahbaz Nadeem was the victim of punishment both in and away from the middle during Sunrisers Hyderabad's Indian Premier League clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The 31-year-old came on for the first of his four overs towards the end of the powerplay, with Virat Kohli and Shahbaz Ahmed at the crease.

But after going for just a single from his opening two deliveries, his third ball was a rank long hop down the leg side, which was dispatched for six by Shahbaz.

Analysing the passage on play on the Star Sports world feed, Mark Nicholas didn't hold back

"It was a rubbish ball though wasn't it? Brutal I know but that is the truth," said the former Hampshire batter during an exchange with Matthew Hayden and Danny Morrison.

It was an uncharacteristic moment from a usually conservative commentary team, who often refrain from making cutting opinions on the mic.

Nicholas is among 100 commentators covering the IPL, with Ian Bishop, Lisa Sthalekar and Mel Jones among the other English speakers being used.

For Nadeem, who was involved with India during the England Test series, returned to get Shahbaz (14) with the first ball of his second over and had figures of 1 for 14 from his first three.

His analysis was somewhat ruined in the 11th over, as Glenn Maxwell and Kohli combined to pump him for 22 to leave him with 4-0-36-1 as RCB made 149 for 8 from their 20 overs.
