IPL record-breaker Chris Morris is "nothing special" and will "go missing" for Rajasthan Royals according to Kevin Pietersen.

The South Africa international became the most expensive auction signing in history when he was picked up for 16 crore (£1.6 million) after a frenzied bidding war.

His four outings have produced five wickets and 48 runs - though that return included a match-winning knock of 36* from 18 balls to secure Royals' only group win against Delhi Capitals.

But Pietersen is less than convinced and while speaking to Star Sports criticised the impact made by Morris.

"This is going to sound harsh, but he went for a lot more money than I would have ever paid for, to be completely honest," said KP, who represent Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiants during his IPL career.

"I just don’t think that he’s worth that kind of number. I think there’s pressure on him. He’s not a first choice for the South African side.

"I think we’re expecting too much. There’s too much talk about him.

"I don’t think he’s the kind of guy that’s going to consistently deliver.

"I mean this with the greatest deal of respect. There’s nothing special about what he does, and if he does run-in, he’ll run in for two games.

"And then he’ll go missing for a few games and it’s not the kind of thing that you should be seeing. He has the attributes."
