The Mumbai Indians batter reveals jabs will be distributed in the coming days as the government open up the process to over 18s from May 1
Indian Premier League players will be given a Covid-19 vaccine next week, according to Mumbai Indians batter Chris Lynn.
The Indian government will open up the inoculation process to all over 18s from May 1.
That will include players involved in the IPL, though reports had suggested only local players would be eligible.
But Australian batter Lynn expects to get a jab next week.
"I know there are people worse off than us," he told News Corp.
"But we are going from a really tight bubble and are getting vaccinated next week so hopefully the government will let us get home on a private charter.
"I texted back that, as Cricket Australia make 10 per cent of every IPL contract, was there a chance we could spend that money this year on a charter flight once the tournament is over?
"We are not asking for shortcuts and we signed up knowing the risks. But it would be great to get home as soon as the event is over."
The comments from Lynn, who played in the defending champions' opening game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, come after prime minister Scott Morrison warned Australian players would have to arrange their own travel home.
Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa and Andrew Tye have all withdrawn from the competition for personal reasons. Ravichandran Ashwin has also pulled amid the major rise of coronavirus infections across India.
