The Australia legspinner pulled out of the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad due to concerns over the Covid-19 crisis in India
Adam Zampa has revealed how mental health concerns led to his decision to withdraw from the Indian Premier League.
The legspinner had not featured in any of Royal Challengers Bangalore's opening five games before making the decision.
A combination of factors led to the call, which has also seen teammate Kane Richardson opt to pull out.
Alongside the rising levels of Covid-19 infections in India, Zampa also pointed to the stresses created by bio-secure bubbles which are now the norm across the world as key to the decision.
"I feel like for anyone leaving halfway through a tournament, it's definitely a financial sacrifice," said the Australia white-ball spinner, who was signed for 1.5 crore by RCB in 2020.
"But from my point of view, I wanted to put my mental health first.
"Obviously the COVID situation over here is pretty dire. I just felt, rocking up to training and stuff, obviously, I wasn't playing in the team as well, I was going to training and I wasn't finding the motivation.
"[There were] a few other things like bubble fatigue and the chance to get home, once all the news broke about the flights and everything. I thought this was the best time to make the call."
