Luke Wright will join the New Zealand men's backroom staff during their tour of Europe.

Wright, the former England international allrounder, will be a part of the Blackcaps set-up during the white-ball series against Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands this summer.

"Incredibly excited to join up with the Blackcaps in July. Amazing opportunity, can't wait," the 37-year-old tweeted on Tuesday.

"Luke will offer in-depth knowledge of the conditions in the UK and his vast experiences in T20 cricket all around the world," said head coach Gary Stead.

Wright holds a limited-overs contract with Sussex and it remains to be seen whether the potential clash between New Zealand's fixtures against Ireland and the latter stages of the Vitality Blast will affect the arrangement.

New Zealand will bring in several additional coaches for the long tour, which also includes three Test matches against England.

Dion Ebrahim, Dean Brownlie and Graeme Aldridge will all be a part of the group at some point during the trip.

"A key lesson from last year's Covid-enforced schedules was the importance of keeping not just our players fresh, but also our staff," said Stead.

"We've got 14 weeks of non-stop cricket ahead in all three formats and across four countries - along with a T20 World Cup also looming in Australia in October.

"We need to ensure our coaches are at the top of their games throughout that period, and able to create an environment in which the team can continue to improve and thrive."
