What is it?

Australia host West Indies in a two-Test match series. It constitutes another instalment in the Frank Worrell Trophy and is part of the ongoing World Test Championship.

When is it?

First Test: Wednesday, November 30 - Sunday, December 4; - Perth Stadium, Perth (2:20am GMT, 10:20am AWST, 7:50am IST)

Second Test: Thursday, December 8 – Monday, December 12; - Adelaide Oval, Adelaide (4:00am GMT, 14:30pm LOCAL, 9:30am IST)

What are the talking points?

Australia can ill-afford a slow start in their first Test series of the summer. With a place in the World Test Championship final within their grasp, Pat Cummins' side hold a narrow lead at the top of the standings. After the deduction of four points denied them a place in the inaugural final in 2021, they will be eager to not allow a second opportunity to slip through their fingers.

Despite whitewashing England in the recent ODI series, Cummins' first since succeeding Aaron Finch, the scars from exiting their home T20 World Cup as holders before the semi-final are still lingering.

These will be Australia's first Tests in four-and-a-half months when they went to Sri Lanka. Two one-sided matches in Galle saw the tourists win by 10 wickets in the first Test before Sri Lanka prevailed by an innings and 38 runs to claim a 1-1 draw.

A new chapter in a rivalry that goes back to the 1930s will be written this summer, with West Indies looking to win the Frank Worrell Trophy for the first time since 1992-93.

The series sees the Windies return to the two cities where they were victorious 20 years ago. Trailing 1-0 heading into the final two Tests, they won by a run in Adelaide and secured a crushing innings victory in Perth.

"Obviously, past history shows it’s a long time since getting wins in Australia and stuff, but we are focusing on our own goals and, obviously, going through the preparation, which is important for any Test match," said captain Kraigg Brathwaite.

West Indies arguably come into the series in better form, having won in Bangladesh in their last Test assignment after stunning England to scoop the Botham-Richards Trophy.

Who's involved?

Steve Smith showed form ODI series against England, striking fear into West Indies legend Brian Lara. "That’s the scary part for the West Indies. "He's finding form in the white ball version of the game and he’s waiting for the Test Matches – a game he loves a lot."

Following on from his Ashes heroics, Travis Head also impressed against England racking up scores of 69, 19 and then 152 at the MCG in the third and final game. This was much needed for the Adelaide-raised batter following a dry 2022 in terms of runs, after the Test series in Sri Lanka and Pakistan where he only averaged 15.16.

Brathwaite captains the West Indies side in Australia and comes into the series in decent form with four half-centuries and a century in his five Tests in 2022. There is great excitement around the uncapped Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of Shivnarine, who is destined to open the innings.

Alex Carey will take the gloves for Australia, while Nathan Lyon acts as the only frontline spinner hoping to add to his 438 Test wickets, with Marnus Labuschagne acting as support.

Windies will hope the pace of Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph can trouble David Warner, who remains at the centre of frenzied debate over his leadership future.

Australia squad: Pat Cummins [C], Scott Boland, Alex Carey [wk], Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner
