India have lost Mayank Agarwal for the first Test against England at Trent Bridge starting on Wednesday (August 4).

The 30-year-old, who has played 14 Tests, was struck on the helmet during the net session in Nottingham on Monday.

Agarwal was assessed by the BCCI medical team, who concluded he had suffered a concussion and should sit out the opening match.

A statement added the opening batter "is stable and will remain under close medical observation".

Media reports in India suggest Agarwal was struck on the back of his head by Mohammad Siraj

The news is the latest blow to India's top order, which is already without Shubman Gill with a left shin injury.

KL Rahul, who has not played a Test since facing West Indies in 2019, is the most likely candidate to open alongside Rohit Sharma.
