Suresh Raina has opened the door to playing in overseas T20 leagues after retirement from Indian domestic cricket.

The 35-year-old will no longer be considered for the Indian Premier League or the domestic system in his homeland.

Raina spent 19 seasons playing domestic cricket with Uttar Pradesh and had two spells at Chennai Super Kings - where he won the tournament four times - either side of two years at Gujarat Lions.

Though he went unsold for the 2022 competition, the left-hander is the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history with 5,528 in 205 games.

He called time on his international career in 2020, immediate after MS Dhoni, after playing 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is for India.

Having taken his leave from Indian cricket, the decision permits Raina to play in a clutch of overseas competitions.

He is already signed up for the Indian Legends team in the second edition of the Road Safety World Series starting later this month.

And appearances in the Lanka Premier League, the SA20 and the International League T20 may also be in the offing.

"I want to continue playing cricket for two or three years," he told Dainik Jagran. "There are some exciting youngsters who are coming through the ranks of Uttar Pradesh cricket.

"I have already taken my No Objection Certificate from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. I have informed BCCI secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajiv Shukla about my decision.

"I will play in the Road Safety Series. T20 franchises from South Africa, Sri Lanka and UAE have contacted me but I am yet to take any decision."
