Glamorgan seamer Lukas Carey has signed a contract extension with the county, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2022 season.

The 23-year-old academy product has become a mainstay of Glamorgan’s bowling attack since making his debut at the age of 19 in 2016.

He has played 29 first-class matches in his career to this point, taking 80 wickets. He has only played once in 2020, taking three first innings wickets against Warwickshire in the final game of the Bob Willis Trophy group stage; however, he could only bowl 5.5 overs in the second innings before leaving the field with a side problem.

Carey said: “I’m really happy to sign a new contract with my boyhood club. I love playing for Glamorgan and representing the Daff.

“Over the next two years I want to kick on and continue to improve and become the leader of the bowling attack across all formats.”

Director of cricket Mark Wallace, added: “It’s good news Lukas will be staying with us for another couple of seasons.

“He’s a very talented seamer who has shown that he has the potential to make an impact at first-class level.

“He hasn’t played as much cricket as he would have liked this season but there’s a lot of improvement that can be made and we look forward to working with him over the next two years.”

Michael Hogan remains the focal point of the club’s seam attack, but the Australian – who took the 600th first-class wicket of a career that only began at the age of 28 – is now in his 40th year.
