After missing the fourth ODI, having twisted his ankle playing football, Jonny Bairstow will miss the remainder of England's white-ball fixtures in Sri Lanka
Jonny Bairstow will not feature in the rest of England's white-ball matches in Sri Lanka.
The wicketkeeper-batsmen missed the fourth ODI after twisting his ankle playing football in a warm-up. That injury now rules him out of the fifth ODI and Saturday's one-off T20.
An ECB statement said: "He will be monitored and assessed on a daily basis by the England medical team in Sri Lanka and a further update will be given in due course on his fitness ahead of the three-match Test series starting next month."
Bairstow faces a race to be fit for the Galle Test
Alex Hales replaced Bairstow for the fourth ODI at Kandy and could keep his place in the final ODI. Alternatively England could look to give Kent's Joe Denly the nod, over eight years since his last appearance in England colours.
In the second match of the series, Bairstow became the sixth Englishman to hit 1,000 runs in a calendar year.
England lead the five-game series 3-0 with the final match to be played Colombo on Tuesday.
