With Buttler stepping down and a number of others hopefully being dropped there is scope for a fresh face to be appointed. Therefore I would propose Tom Abell for his batting, bowling, fielding and considerable captaincy experience

Don't make the same mistakes as before and appoint your best player. This rarely works as you need an astute tactician and strong personality. Buttler has never been either. It's no accident that our greatest success came with Morgan at the helm. You need a proven captain, even if that means sacrificing a more talented batsman. There's plenty of our batters over recent years that have had huge natural talent but haven't delivered the goods often enough, so sacrifing one of them is no issue for me.
