Scorecard

Jamaica Tallawahs stormed to their third Caribbean Premier League title after beating favourites Barbados Royals in Guyana.

Brandon King smashed an unbeaten 83 in a routine chase of 162, to secure victory by eight wickets with 23 balls remaining.

Shamarh Brooks added 47 from 33 deliveries before Rovan Powell polished off the pursuit with little alarm.

Table-toppers Royals, who had lost just twice en route to the final, chose to bat first and made 161 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Rakheem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers put on 63 for the first wicket in the powerplay, but from then on the run rate slowed to seven-an-over.

Fabian Allen (3 for 24) and the uncapped Nicholson Gordon (3 for 33) got in amongst the Royals and disrupted their flow.

Just three boundaries came off the final 19 deliveries, while Iman Wasim kept things tight with 1 for 18.

Tallawahs lost Kennar Lewis in the first over as they looked to add a third title to their crowns from 2013 and 2016.

King and Brooks steadied the ship, putting on 86 for the second wicket in 9.4 overs.

Jason Holder did for his fellow Barbadian, as Ramon Simmonds held on at deep square leg, but King ploughed on to ensure the celebrations started early.

He took Joshua Bishop for a quartet of fours in the 12th over and hit two more off Corbin Bosch after Rovman Powell smashed a six over wide long-off.

The wheels came off the Royals' bowling performance when the usually reliable Mujeeb ur Rahman conceded 20 from his third over, including two fours, a six and five wides.

King crashed a drive over the rope from the first delivery of the 17th over from Obed McCoy to start the celebrations and confirm himself as the leading run-scorer and player of the tournament.

"You set goals for yourself before the tournament," he said, "No.1 is to win the tournament and we did that. I'm happy to finish with the most runs.

"The guys trust each other to go out there and carry their roles. Brooks came out and took control early when I was struggling but I was happy to be out there to help finish it off.

"I'm extremely happy that we won this year. There's no special formula. Just work hard and believe in your abilities. Confidence goes a long way. The team is amazing. Everyone believes in each other.

"Within the team, we have 100 per cent confidence in each other. Everyone contributed at some point in the tournament. All I wanted to do is win the tournament. It turned out that way and I ended up performing decent but all that mattered was we won."
