India seamer Mohammed Siraj has joined relegation-threatened reigning champions Warwickshire for the final three LV= Insurance County Championship fixtures.

The 28-year-old is available to face Somerset, Gloucestershire and Hampshire in September.

Siraj is currently in Zimbabwe for India's three-match one-day international series ahead of the Asia Cup, for which he is not involved.

In 13 Tests, the right-arm quick has 40 wickets at 30.77. He played in last month's fifth Test against England at Edgbaston, home of Warwickshire, taking 4 for 66.

His first-class record has seen him claim 194 scalps at 24.90, with a quintet of five-wicket hauls.

"I can't wait to join up with the Bears squad," said Siraj. "I have always enjoyed playing in England with India and I'm excited to experience county cricket.

Director of Cricket said Paul Farbrace: "It's been clear that we needed to strengthen our bowling attack for the crucial run-in period and I’m excited to see what Siraj can do in these three games."

He is the latest Indian to play for the Edgbaston-based county this season after Krunal Pandya was signed up for the Royal London Cup.

Will Rhodes' Warwickshire have been unable to build on their 2021 title win and currently sit eighth in the County Championship with one win from 11 matches.

With Gloucestershire cut adrift at the bottom of Division One, the Bears are in a four-way battle to avoid the drop. They currently sit five points above ninth-place Somerset, who have a game in hand.
