Leicestershire have re-signed South Africa allrounder Wiaan Mulder for the next two seasons.

Mulder, 24, starred in all formats for the Grace Road county in 2022, topping the batting averages in the County Championship and Royal London Cup, in which he was named as the player of the tournament.

In a high-scoring July draw with Sussex, Mulder made an unbeaten 235, his highest first-class score.

He then dominated the 50-over competition, averaging 88.83 and taking 14 wickets with his seamers at 28.92 apiece.

"I loved my time at Leicestershire this year and I really enjoy county cricket, so I'm very excited to be coming back," he said.

"My teammates and the coaching staff have been so good to me personally, making me feel at home, so that's a big reason why I'm back for more.

"We're building a nice squad, it's something I really want to be involved in. Hopefully I can contribute more in the coming seasons."

Claude Henderson, Leicestershire's director of cricket, added that Mulder would bring "a lot of value off the field, and we know his influence will make our side stronger".

Mulder's return is the latest piece of business in a busy winter at Leicestershire, where Lewis Hill is the new red-ball captain, with Callum Parkinson unable to commit long-term to the county. Experienced seamer Chris Wright has signed a new deal, as has batter Nick Welch, while James Taylor has arrived as batting coach. Hassan Azad is among those released by the county, with Matt Salisbury brought in to add bowling depth.

Mulder, who has also played county cricket for Kent, had initially been due to sign in 2021, only for that arrangement to be cancelled due to the uncertainty at the time of his international schedule.
