GEORGE DOBELL: As part of the agreement, Trott is expected to be released to take-on short-term assignments elsewhere as they occur
Jonathan Trott has been appointed as Warwickshire's assistant coach.
Trott, who spent the winter working as a batting coach with England, England Lions and Scotland, worked with the club in a consultancy capacity in 2021 but has seen his role expanded ahead of the 2022 season.
Trott, who is understood to have turned down the role of batting coach at Yorkshire, still lives in Birmingham – he once memorably said he preferred it to Cape Town, where he was born – and twice won the County Championship as a player with Warwickshire. The club won the trophy again in 2021.
He joins a coaching team which includes Mark Robinson as head coach and Tony Frost as batting coach. Paul Farbrace, who recently declined an offer to return to coach Sri Lanka, remains as director of cricket.
"It's a great privilege to extend my time working as a coach for my home county," said Trott. "We've got an excellent set of players here and seeing them win the Championship at Edgbaston was an incredibly proud day."
As part of the agreement, Trott is expected to be released to take-on short-term assignments elsewhere as they occur. He worked for Trent Rockets in 2021 – an arrangement which is expected to be repeated in 2022 – and has been called upon regularly by the England management as a batting coach.

"This is a fantastic way for the club to expand our close working relationship with Jonathan," Farbrace said. "He has experienced success at every level of the game, he knows the club inside out and he is developing into an excellent coach. The players enjoy learning more from his experiences within the game but also in honing their skills for red and white ball cricket.
"Jonathan loves Warwickshire and he is relishing the opportunity to spend more time at Edgbaston, helping our players reach their potential. He is also very ambitious as a coach, so if we can support his development it's excellent for both parties."
Warwickshire are set to announce the identity of their new bowling coach in the coming days. Along those who attended the final round of interviews were Allan Donald and Donovan Miller. Both are understood to have impressed. Other candidates included Shaun Tait, Dale Steyn and Mo Sheikh.
