Should a shortened county season be possible in this summer’s latter months, Glamorgan have confirmed that all of their home games will take place at Sophia Gardens, with none of their fixtures being played at outgrounds.
The club initially had four home games scheduled for outgrounds; Glamorgan had been due to face Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire in the Royal London Cup at Newport, as well as taking on Durham at Swansea and Nottinghamshire at Colwyn Bay in the County Championship.
The 18 first-class counties are continuing to work with the ECB on a viable schedule, beginning no earlier than August 1, with a focus on the demands of public health and safety, given the coronavirus pandemic.
It has been decided, therefore, that the “logistical challenges” involved in preparing a club cricket ground for play would be too taxing a task in the circumstances.
The county’s chief executive, Hugh Morris, explained: “We were looking forward to our annual fixtures in Swansea and Colwyn Bay, and taking one-day cricket to Newport for our 2020 season.
"It is with regret that we today announce that the logistical challenges of hosting outground cricket simply cannot be met in this current, uncertain climate.
“The domestic fixture schedule for 2020 has yet to be determined, but if cricket is able to safely return, our focus for the season will be on hosting all matches at our main venue, Sophia Gardens.
"We remain committed to taking Glamorgan games across Wales for wider communities to enjoy, when we are able to do so safely and securely.”
