Gay had to undergo an operation three weeks ago to help heal a stress fracture on his left kneecap, and will miss the start of the season
Northamptonshire opening batter Emilio Gay is hoping he will be able to feature in two red-ball fixtures in May.
Gay had to undergo an operation three weeks ago to help heal a stress fracture on his left kneecap, and will miss the start of the season.
The opener will aim to make his County Championship comeback against Nottinghamshire at the County Ground, on May 11.

Gay told the Daventry Express: "Sometimes the official diagnosis and my thoughts are slightly different. I am three weeks on from surgery, I saw the consultant the other day, and I have the physios checking it every day.
"So far everything is on schedule, and as good as it can be so far. Obviously, the challenge will be moving into some proper gym work and running, sprinting and turning and stuff."
The 22-year-old had a good season last summer, scoring 825 runs in 14 County Championship Division One matches.

He will be looking to build on last summer and his current average of 28.44 in first class cricket.
Gay said: "Realistically, this summer was one I was really eyeing up. I was aiming to try and get Northants into winning positions, and then also get notices and get higher recognition. I wanted to build on what I did last year.
"I felt really good when I got back (to Northampton), I was ready to start the season strong, but it is part of the game. I have now just got to just try and do what I can to get back as soon as I can."
