COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO ROUNDUP: Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Lancashire and Middlesex are left frustrated by inclement weather
Bristol (day one of four): Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire - no play
Gloucestershire's outside hopes of challenging for the second promotion berth in Division Two of the County Championship were dealt a blow when the opening day of their match against Northamptonshire at Bristol was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Heavy overnight rain rendered the outfield too wet for play to be considered at all during the morning session. Lunch was taken at 12.30 and the umpires decided to inspect at 1pm. But further rain showers forced the inspection to be put back by an hour.
With high winds bringing the threat of further rain to the Seat Unique Stadium, the decision to call the game off for the day was eventually taken at 2.05pm.

Old Trafford (day one of four): Lancashire v Middlesex - no play
A combination of high winds and frequent heavy showers ensured that no play was possible on the first day of the Division Two County Championship match between Lancashire and Middlesex at Old Trafford.
Ground safety regulations meant that the covers could not be removed before play was due to begin, when there was no rain falling early in the day, but the heavy downpour that began about half-past 10, the scheduled start-time, would have made that a fruitless exercise in any event.
Umpires Richard Illingworth and Chris Watts conducted an inspection during a dry interval at 1.30pm, but the rain had returned by 2.30pm, when they were due to take a second look and it was no surprise that play was finally abandoned at 2.35pm.
