Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan faces an anxious wait ahead of the World Cup after suffering a side injury in the Tri-Nation series win over Ireland.

The 32-year-old was forced to retire hurt on 50 during The Tigers' second innings chase in Dublin.

It is unknown how Shakib suffered the blow but he was left holding his side in the 35th over, before receiving treatment from physio Thihan Chandramohan.

He attempted to bat on but lasted just one more delivery from Josh Little before being forced to retire as a precaution.

With a history of finger injuries, it remains to be seen whether Shakib is fit in time to be named in Bangladesh's World Cup squad, which must be ratified by May 23.

They face Pakistan and India in two warm-up matches before their tournament begins against South Africa at The Oval.

Despite his withdrawal, his half-century was enough to help guide Bangladesh to victory, as they chased down 293 to win with seven overs remaining.

Liton Das top scored with 76 from 67 balls, with Shakib and opener Tamim Iqbal hitting fifties.

West Indies are their opponents in the Tri-Nations final on Friday.
