The batsman replaced Shaun Marsh in the squad and is set to be included in the team for the clash at Edgbaston, according to coach Justin Langer
Peter Handscomb is in line to be named in the Australia team to face England in the World Cup semi-final at Edgbaston on Thursday.
The 28-year-old was only called into the squad last week to replace Shaun Marsh, who suffered a broken wrist in training.
Handscomb has been playing for Australia A during their tour of England but he is set to be parachuted into their top order as they chase a sixth title.
Averaging 34.88 in 21 one-day internationals with a top score of 117, Handscomb is likely to slot into the No.4 position, with Steve Smith moving up to replace the injured Usman Khawaja, who has also withdrawn from the squad.
Matthew Wade meanwhile has been called up to the squad as a replacement for Marcus Stonis, who has a side problem.
NEWS: Australia head coach Justin Langer confirms Peter Handscomb will come into Australia's XI in place of Usman Khawaja for the #CWC19 semi-final against England on Thursday.
