The West Indies allrounder was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel
West Indies allrounder Carlos Brathwaite has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee after breaching level one of the ICC code of conduct during his side's 125-run defeat to India at Old Trafford on Thursday.
The 30-year-old Barbadian was found to have breached article 2.8 of the code, which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match."
The incident occurred in the 42nd over of India's innings, when Brathwaite protested the umpire's decision of declaring a wide off his bowling with Hardik Pandya on strike.
Brathwaite admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Chris Broad, and therefore no hearing will be required.
Level one breaches normally carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points added to their disciplinary record.
In this case, one demerit point was deemed appropriate and has consequently been added to Brathwaite's record alongside the one which resulted from a similar offence earlier on in the tournament against England in Southampton on June 14.
