The Lahore Qalandars will be without their captain Mohammad Hafeez for the rest of the Pakistan Super League after he fractured his thumb.

The allrounder was bowling during his side’s match against the Karachi Kings on Saturday when a ball struck by Colin Ingram hit him on the right thumb.

He immediately left the field to receive treatment with overseas player AB de Villiers taking over as captain for the rest of the match, which the Qalandars won by 22 runs.

The 38-year-old will be out for up to six weeks, with the Qalandars confirming both that he had been released from a squad and that they were seeking a replacement.

"This is extremely disappointing for us that Hafeez has been injured and won’t be available to the Qalandars for the tournament. We wish him quick recovery and back in action soon," said Sameen Rana, the manager of Lahore Qalandars.

Hafeez sits at No.28 on the T20 Player Index, just below his countryman Shahid Afridi, but above the likes of Kane Williamson.

This is particularly bad news for the Qalandars who sit bottom of the table after three matches. They have finished bottom of every single edition of the PSL so far.
