Kent's James Tredwell has retired
James Tredwell, the former England spinner, has announced he has retired from cricket.
Tredwell, who appeared in 45 one-day internationals, 17 T20Is and two Test matches for his country, has struggled for fitness in 2018 and failed to make an appearance for his county, Kent.
The 36-year-old informed his team-mates of his decision on Monday after failing to overcome what the club has termed a "chronic" shoulder problem this summer.
Tredwell claimed 78 international wickets to go with 830 in the colours of Kent, for whom he played for a decade before receiving England recognition for the first time in 2010.
Tredwell played two Tests for England
During the era of Graeme Swann, he was always the understudy, and was only afforded two opportunities on the elite Test stage - in Bangladesh in 2010 and five years later in the Caribbean.
Still, he made a significant contribution both to the England side and back in Canterbury - he made four first-class centuries and 17 fifties in domestic cricket, in addition to his wickets.
Tredwell captain Kent in 2013 but has steadily fallen down the pecking order in recent years, prior to a difficult 12 months with injuries. Now he has taken the decision to call stumps.
"I have had some great times on and off the cricket field but now it’s time for both me and the club to move on," he said.
"I am looking forward to giving something back to the game I love, whether it be as an umpire or coach – I will see where each role takes me and I am excited by the challenge ahead.

"In closing though, I would like to take this opportunity to say that it has been an honour to play for Kent all these years and I would like to thank all staff, coaches, team mates and fans for their tremendous support over the years."
Kent director of cricket Paul Downton said: "James has made an outstanding contribution to Kent in all formats throughout an incredibly successful career and I would like to congratulate him on all that he has achieved.
"His commitment and loyalty to the county is admired by team mates and supporters alike – he is also hugely respected by his fellow professionals.
"The dressing room will be a very different place without Treddy and I would like to wish him all the very best for the future."
