Gujarat Titans have made New Zealand's express pacer Lockie Ferguson their flagship signing of the IPL mega auction.

The former Kolkata Knight Riders fast-bowler had a reserve price of 2 crore but went for five times that figure.

Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants all showed an interest.

But Titans held firm but had to part with 10 crore (£978,093) to get their man.

Ferguson will be nicely complemented in the Titans attack by Mohammed Shami, who was signed up for 6.25 crore (£589,000) by his fourth different IPL franchise.

The batting line-up will be led by England's Jason Roy, who was signed for 2 crore (£195,618) after Titans submitted the only offer.

Rahul Tewatia, still basking in the glow of his player of the match performance against the formerly-known Kings XI Punjab in 2020, was subject to a late but successful bid from Titans after a tussle between RCB and CSK.

Abhinav Manohar, who strikes at 150 in T20s, may prove to be a snip at 2.6 crore following interest from KKR.

The concluding rounds saw their work completed for the day by the arrival of Afghanistan's Noor Ahmad (30 lakhs, £29,343), the youngster player in the auction, and R Sai Kishore for 3 crore (£293,446) - adding to what looks like an impressive bowling attack.

The Vikram Solanki-led franchise, helped by head coach Ashish Nehra and analyst Sandeep Raju, were coy in their approach to their first auction, often entering the bidding for players at a late stage.

Putting together a premier batter of quicks was central to the approach for much of the day but they failed to get Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, T Natarajan, Shardul Thakur and Shivam Mavi.

There was also brief interest in spinning allrounder Washington Sundar and left-armer Harpreet Brar.
