The five-time champions must win all three of their remaining games to stand a chance of avoiding finishing bottom of the IPL table
Mumbai: Kolkata Knight Riders 165-9, Mumbai Indians 113 - Kolkata Knight Riders won by 52 runs
Kolkata Knight Riders kept alive their slim hopes of qualifying for the Indian Premier League playoffs after overwhelming Mumbai Indians.
The five-time winners were 100 for 4 in pursuit of 166 to win, with six overs remaining.
But after losing Ishan Kishan (51) and Daniel Sams (1) in the same Pat Cummins over they collapsed to 113 all out with 15 balls still to be bowled.
To underline the ignominy, the last three wickets all fell via run-outs with Kumar Kartikeya (3), Kieron Pollard (15) and Jasprit Bumrah (0) all short of their ground.
Bumrah had earlier taken a remarkable 5 for 10, the joint-third-fastest five-for in IPL history, which included 18 dot balls.
It restricted KKR to 165 for 9 from their 20 overs, collapsing badly from 123 for 2 after 13 overs.
Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana both scored 43 and had it not been for Rinku Singh's 23 the door would have been left open for MI.

Jasprit Bumrah took 5 for 10 but ended up on the losing side (BCCI)
Seven players failed to reach double figures and the last four batters failed to score as Bumrah and Sams ran riot.
Needing 77 from 44 balls, Mumbai looked marginal favourites and their position was strengthened when Kishan cleared the rope, reached his third fifty of the campaign and was dropped by Shreyas Iyer in a dramatic 14th over bowled by Sunil Narine.
But three wickets in an over for Cummins, which went for just two, turned the tide and ultimately opened up a path for KKR to win.
Kartikeya was run out off the final ball of Cummins' allocation and a woeful chase ended in a rather anti-climactic fashion as Pollard and Bumrah went a similar way.
Victory for last season's runners-up means they can still qualify for the playoffs but must win their final two games and hope for results from elsewhere to go their way.
Mumbai, meanwhile, remain bottom of the table and only wins in their final three games can ensure they avoid finishing bottom of the pile.
