ENGLAND

Phil Salt (60): The Sussex man made his natural game work at the highest level and his string, brisk innings helped England rebuild the only way they know-how. Should get another go at Edgbaston. 7

Dawid Malan (0): One of the Cardiff half-centurions out for nought, fending at one from Hasan Ali. 1

Zak Crawley (0): Got done by one of the better balls of the afternoon, failing to get his bat down in time to keep out Shaheen's yorker. 1

James Vince (56): Took his chance with both hands with a typically classy knock. Got a good going over by Shadab Khan and was eventually castled, which isn't a great sign. 7

Ben Stokes (22 & DNB): Another performance where what he has done behind the scenes, in uniting this random group, was more important than on the field. Ugly shot as his off-stump was taken out by Hasan. 3

John Simpson (17): Looked a bit spooked by some hostile stuff from Pakistan. The highlight was the brilliant catch to get rid of Faheem Ashraf off Matt Parkinson. A lovely moment on his home ground. 6

Lewis Gregory (40 & 2-44): Got Imam via his first delivery off the back of a critical innings with the bat which gave himself and Mahmood something to bowl at. 7.5

Craig Overton (0 & 2-39): Looks to have a bit more pace in his legs at least and Pakistan could not deal with his short stuff. 6

Brydon Carse (31 & 1-44): Again bowled with pace but was perhaps more impressive at Cardiff. Collected his maiden international wicket when Hasan skied one. 6

Saqib Mahmood (8 & 2-21): On the money once again with another thrilling display of new-ball bowling. Used the conditions effectively, got a bit of movement and had batter leaping around. Babar Azam has had no answer. 7.5

Matt Parkinson (7* & 2-42): Got slapped around a little bit by Hasan but once he hit his stride he frustrated Pakistan at the back-end. Will be delighted to have kept hold of Shadab when the opportunity came. 6

PAKISTAN

Imam-ul-Haq (1): A rotten series continued. Lasted one more ball than in south Wales, but that was it. Put down Salt with a sterling effort, but you can't criticise him for that. 1

Fakhar Zaman (10): Started in a similar fashion to Cardiff, but was unable to go on. Used up 45 deliveries for his 10 runs; that approach might need a rethink come Edgbaston. 3

Babar Azam (19): Made a bit more headway but Mahmood again contributed to his downfall. Turned to Hasan at the right time in the England innings, but was let down by some average fielding again. 3

Mohammad Rizwan (5): Got a very good ball from Mahmood and quickly off the field. Another who is having a wretched tour. 3

Saud Shakeel (56 & 1-14): A very tidy and organised half-century as the match meandered towards a conclusion. Tad fortunate to get Salt in the manner in which he did. 7

Sohaib Maqsood (19): Took on the short ball with reckless abandon but went one time too many and top-edged a catch for Simpson. 4

Shadab Khan (21 & 1-46): Another who looked tidy but gave away his wicket, uppercutting the ball to Parkinson. Not overly effective with the ball. 5

Faheem Ashraf (1 & 0-45): Was the most wayward of the bowlers and is surely vulnerable heading to Birmingham. 3

Hasan Ali (31 & 5-51): The outstanding performer of the day who ended up on the losing side. Bowled with real intensity and got his name on the honours board. Took pleasure in going after Parkinson with three straight sixes. Had he stayed around for another 30 minutes it might have been a different story. 8

Shaheen Shah Afridi (18* & 1-37): Ball that got Crawley was a cracker but once again he looked a bit rusty. Could have taken more risks with the bat, too. 5

Haris Rauf (1 & 2-54): Seven ODIs deep, Pakistan have yet to establish whether he is a key and viable member of their attack. Bowls with pace but loses his discipline too quickly. Better set up for the 20-over game. 6
