The former Test skipper has formally begun his nine-month tenure following the governing body's Annual General Meeting in Mumbai
Former India Test captain Sourav Ganguly has been formally confirmed as the new president of the BCCI.
The 47-year-old ran unopposed for the position and was unveiled following the governing body's Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Ganguly's appointment comes after a 33-month root and branch review of operations inside the BCCI by the Supreme Court.
Among the conclusions reached was to end the influence of politicians within the administration, leading to the exit of Anurag Thakur.
Ganguly will only have a short period at the helm due to BCCI rules over individuals holding board positions over more than six consecutive years.
His role with the Cricket Association on Bengal means he will fill the position for just nine months before a successor is sought.

Speaking upon his unveiling, Ganguly pledged to give his full backing to captain Virat Kohli, who he has previously criticised for failing to galvanise the India team.
"I will speak to Virat Kohli tomorrow, will support him in every possible way, whatever he wants," he said.
"Virat Kohli has taken the Indian team to a new level. We have been with him and we will be with him.
"Virat is the captain now and we will have the same relations.
"Whatever he needs to help India play well, we will provide that to him. Kohli has taken the Indian team to a new level. We have been with him and we will be with him."
